Hi, how can I help you?
Material & Care
What materials are used to create Saint & Jéan jewellery?
Our jewelry is predominantly handcrafted with 18ct gold vermeil, pronounced ‘ver-may’, featuring a thicker gold layer added to 925 sterling silver. For gold vermeil classification, the gold layer must be a minimum of 2.5 microns, contrasting with gold-plated jewelry, typically less than 1 micron thick. The plating process also varies; gold vermeil is plated through the 'electrolysis' method, enhancing its durability. In his Istanbul studio within the grand bazaar, our jeweler handcrafts chains, pendants, and charms. He sources gold from authorized members of the Istanbul Gold Exchange, ensuring authenticity, traceability, and sustainable production.
Our jump rings, used for assembling pieces in London, are crafted from 18ct gold-plated brass. Sourced from a Canadian findings manufacturer specializing in ultra-secure jump rings, soldering is unnecessary, adding to the quality and integrity of our pieces.
How do I care for my jewellery?
We usually suggest giving your jewellery a gentle clean with a soft, lint-free cloth. If needed, a bit of mild dish soap and warm water with a soft toothbrush can do the trick, followed by a rinse and pat dry. Steer clear of harsh chemicals found in 'dip' polish or abrasive cleaners, as they can harm your precious pieces over time.
While we suggest removing them before activities such as swimming, showering, or working out to prevent tarnishing accelerated by moisture and sweat—because who wants that, right?—wearing them in these conditions on occasion isn't catastrophic. Gold vermeil, naturally more durable than gold-plated jewelry, can withstand such circumstances fairly well.
